About Akosombo & Lake Volta
Akosombo is where the Volta River was dammed in the 1960s to create Lake Volta, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. Today the riverbanks around Akosombo and Atimpoku are lined with resorts, and boat cruises head out onto the lake.
The Adomi Bridge, the dam viewpoint and fresh tilapia by the river make it an easy and relaxing weekend from Accra.
Travel tips
Weekends and public holidays are busy, so book resorts early. Visits to the dam itself are by arrangement, so ask us in advance.
