About Bolgatanga & the Upper East

Bolgatanga, or Bolga, is famous for its woven straw baskets and leatherwork, sold in the town's craft market. Nearby villages are known for their decorated mud houses, especially Sirigu, where a women's cooperative keeps the painting and pottery traditions alive. The Tongo Hills and the shrines of Tengzug, the slave camp at Pikworo and the crocodile ponds of Paga are all within easy reach.
