About Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary
Along the Black Volta, on the border with Burkina Faso, local communities protect a population of hippos. Guided canoe trips glide along the river for close but respectful views, and there are also many birds. A simple lodge allows an overnight stay to be on the river at dawn.
