Assin Manso Slave River

The 'last bath' site where captives were washed before the march to the coast.

About Assin Manso Slave River

At Assin Manso, enslaved Africans were bathed in the Donkor Nsuo river for the last time before being marched to the coastal castles. Today it is a place of remembrance, with a memorial wall, graves of two former captives returned from the Americas, and the river itself. It is central to Emancipation Day events each August.
